The Future is Coming into Focus
Lists are wonderful things.
They're usually short, quick reads that we can debate, share and compare.
With 2016 put to bed, film fans turn their attention to what title might become the next must-see thriller like Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals or the next "I wish they made more movies like that" a la Damien Chazelle's La La Land.
The Focus slate is as diverse and intriguing as it has ever been and it's great to see a number of titles making "Must See" lists.
With that...here's a list of the lists that the Focus list of list-worthy titles have been given love in...
InStyle
The Jessica Chastain historical drama The Zookeeper's Wife is number 6 on InStyle's list of "The 15 Movies We're Most Excited for in 2017".
"Prepare to be charmed and inspired by this emotional tale..."
Women and Hollywood
A spin at Women and Hollywood looks at the "20 Most Anticipated Films By and About Women of 2017". Niki Caro's The Zookeeper's Wife and Sofia Coppola's The Beguiled make the list as does Focus World's RAW which is written and directed by Julia Ducournau.
The Atlantic
Sofia Coppola's third film with Focus The Beguiled and Gary Oldman's turn as Winston Churchill in the Joe Wright-directed Darkest Hour make The Atlantic's list of "27 Movies to Look Forward to in 2017".
Esquire
"The 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017" at Esquire shows love to The Beguiled.
"...we can't wait to see what director Sophia [sic] Coppola does with her remake, which will replace [Clint] Eastwood with Colin Farrell and fill out its impressive cast with Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Nicole Kidman."
Den of Geek
Coming in at #28 on the decidedly superhero/sci-fi-heavy list over at Den of Geek is Colin Trevorrow's thriller The Book of Henry. Trevorrow's follow up to Jurassic World stars Naomi Watts and break-out youngins Jaeden Lieberher [Midnight Special] and Jacob Tremblay [Room].
Flavorwire
The Beguiled is joined by the as-yet-unnamed and undated Paul Thomas Anderson/Daniel Day-Lewis project on "Flavorwire's 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017".
"We don't even have a damn title yet, much less a synopsis beyond a vague "50's London fashion drama," but who cares; any new Paul Thomas Anderson film is news, particularly since this one finds him re-teaming with There Will Be Blood star Daniel Day-Lewis...That is literally all we know, and that's enough to make it our most anticipated movie of the year."
Marie Claire
At number 3 on Marie Claire's "12 Movies You Need to See in 2017" is The Beguiled.
"Sofia Coppola is always worth your time...The Beguiled feels like a return to Coppola's Virgin Suicide roots - an emotionally claustrophobic melodrama about sexual repression and dark dynamics between women."
New Republic
Tim Grierson and Will Leitch offer "Ten Films We're Looking Forward To In 2017" for the New Republic and both The Beguiled and the Paul Thomas Anderson/Daniel Day-Lewis project are called out.
