Focus Features and Gold Circle Entertainment have announced Bobby Farrelly’s latest film Champions. The film is directed by Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary, The Three Stooges), written by Mark Rizzo, and produced by Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer and Jeremy Plager, and executive produced by Woody Harrelson, Brad Kessell, Alexander Jooss, Luis Manso, Alvaro Longoria and Javier Fesser. Production recently wrapped production.
The film is centered around a stubborn and hotheaded minor league basketball coach who is sentenced to community service and forced to coach a Special Olympics team. The cast is led by Academy Award® nominated and Emmy Award winner Woody Harrelson (True Detective, Zombieland), Emmy Award nominated Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Hacks), Grammy nominated Cheech Marin (Born in East L.A, From Dusk Til Dawn), Matt Cook (Man With a Plan, The Comeback), and is rounded out by a cast of more than 10 actors with intellectual disabilities who authentically tell the story, including Madison Tevlin, Joshua Felder, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, Matthew Von Der Ahe, Tom Sinclair, James Day Keith, Alex Hintz, Casey Metcalfe, Bradley Edens, and Champ Pederson.
Champions is based on the Goya Award winning Spanish film Campeones from 2018, which was released by Universal Pictures International.
