Fashion Designers Team Up with Upcoming Film On the Basis of Sex to Celebrate Equality

“All Rise” Exclusive Collection to Support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

Seven fashion designers and beauty brands have teamed up with Participant Media’s film On the Basis of Sex, distributed by Focus Features and inspired by a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg, starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer. The companies, including Diane Von Furstenberg, Clare V., Lingua Franca, Soludos, Catbird, Clé de Peau Beauté, and Dissent Pins, collaborated to design the “All Rise” collection, an exclusive line of clothing, jewelry, accessories, and make-up items inspired by the film and the work of Justice Ginsburg. A portion of each sale will go to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) – a non-profit organization committed to defending civil rights and civil liberties - where Ginsburg co-founded the Women’s Rights Project.

The collection is available for purchase now at and also online through each company’s website.

Designer Diane von Furstenberg, who designed several items for the line including one of her iconic wrap dresses, said, “We are happy to reissue this geometric print to celebrate the premiere of On the Basis of Sex and Felicity Jones’ portrayal of the incomparable Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”

Here is what the designers and companies had to say about the film and how Justice Ginsburg’s decades-spanning worth of work championing gender equality inspired their pieces.

Clare Vivier said, “We’ve loved the ability to give back over the years, and the chance to work with the ACLU in support and celebration of not just this film, but of Justice Ginsburg's work is an opportunity we're so proud to be a part of.”

Lingua Franca said, “RBG is a force of nature, and she reminds us all that we all have more inner strength than we may know or believe.”

Clé de Peau Beauté said, “Justice Ginsburg is truly a Legend and it is an honor to champion her cause.”

Soludos said, “Ruth Bader Ginsburg has accelerated the pace of change for women’s equality through her innate sense of optimism and unwavering commitment to justice. It was an honor to create a shoe inspired by her work.”

Catbird said, “Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a woman who figured out her own path and worked tirelessly to change the world into what she thought it ought to be.”

Dissent Pins said, “We started Dissent Pins as a way to celebrate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life and work and to give people a way to carry her with them every day.”

On the Basis of Sex is inspired by the true story of a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg – then a struggling attorney and new mother – who faces adversity and numerous obstacles in her fight for equal rights throughout her career.

When Ruth takes on a groundbreaking tax case with her husband, attorney Martin Ginsburg, she knows it could change the direction of her career and the way the courts view gender discrimination. The film also chronicles the storybook-like romance between Ruth and Marty, a partnership that succeeded both personally and professionally.

Participant Media’s On the Basis of Sex, in association with Alibaba Pictures and distributed by Focus Features, is directed by Mimi Leder (The Leftovers, Deep Impact) from an original screenplay by Daniel Stiepleman.

On the Basis of Sex stars Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Armie Hammer as Marty Ginsburg, Ruth’s husband and legal partner. Rounding out the cast are Justin Theroux, Jack Reynor, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen Root, with Academy Award® nominee Sam Waterston and Oscar® winner Kathy Bates.

Robert Cort and Jonathan King are producing. Jeff Skoll, Daniel Stiepleman, Betsy Danbury and Karen Loop are executive producers.
