Funny Story writer/directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and star Emma Roberts, in Movie

After having published his talk with Keir Gilchrist, Kyle Buchanan now uploads his interviews with It’s Kind of a Funny Story directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, as well as Gilchrist’s co-star Emma Roberts in his post “Emma Roberts and Directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden on It’s Kind of a Funny Story’s Unexpected Uplift” Fleck expressed how, for those familiar with their more dramatic work, this movie might feel like a small departure: “We wanted to make sure that when you go to this movie, you’re going to have a good time….you’re going to come out feeling uplifted.” That sensibility wasn’t lost on young Emma Roberts, who knew the book quite well:

“I read a lot and I was browsing the bookstore when I was 14 or 15 and saw the book,” Roberts told Movieline. “I read it and fell in love with it. I thought all the characters were so original and interesting, especially Noelle.”
