At one point, Fassbender beautifully articulates what at the heart of his Rochester: “That's what I was trying to get at. That's what I wanted with him, he's got a shadow on him all the time, this guilty secret, this dirty secret. Everything springs from that secret, from what happened to him in Jamaica.
