At the start of the year, the Los Angeles Times regularly looks out over the cultural landscape and picks a few notable figures, predicting these will be the ones to watch. This year one of them is filmmaker Cary Fukunaga. Of course, we’ve been watching him for a bit. In March 2009, Focus released Sin Nombre, his powerful tale of immigrants on the trains in Mexico. This Spring Focus is releasing his take on Jane Eyre. Reed Johnson mentions just this range, moving “from Latin American railroad yards to Victorian English manor houses,” as an earmark of his talent. And Jane Eyre stars the young talent Mia Wasikowska (who also showed up in The Kids Are All Right), whom the LA Times is happy to remind us they picked as a "Face to Watch" in 2008.
