Loving: Real Talk with the NY Times

Nichols, Negga and Edgerton don't hold back in this fascinating piece.

Can It All Be So Simple?

There are press pieces that check boxes, pull quotes from the press kit, add a few snaps and perhaps a clip and call it a day.

Then there is the type of editorial Logan Hill presents on Loving for The New York Times where the mechanics of filmmaking and the craft of acting are presented in full candor.

The latter is a worthy effort and read.

"What you need to be worried about is how I will ever come back to work with you guys ever again because that is the most simplistic, stupid response I've heard."

Mr. Hill - in concert with writer/director Jeff Nichols, Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton - frame the origin, obstacles and finishing touches of producing Loving.

"When this financier asked Mr. Nichols if he could 'punch it up,' Mr. Nichols daid he launched into the sort of rebellious speech that is absent in his film. 'What you need to worry about right now is not whether I'm going to punch up this script so you can be involved,' he recalled saying. 'What you need to be worried about is how I will ever come back to work with you guys ever again because that is the most simplistic, stupid response I've heard.'"

This is a strong recommendation to visit The Times and read the full piece.
