Loving and Focus Chairman Peter Kujawski Take Cannes

IndieWire reports on early Oscar buzz, the pipeline and what defines a Focus Film.

Opening with the strong response Jeff Nichols' Loving received at Cannes, Anne Thompson replays how the current Focus management team came together and how, lead by chairman Peter Kujawski, they look to shape the brand going forward.

Kujawski offers, "Movies can matter and bring people together in important ways and we take that seriously...The question first: 'is this movie great, can it be great, on its own terms in a unique and refreshing way?'"

With an elevated appreciation for global opportunities and performance as well as doubling-down on domestic efforts, Kujawski and team look to optimize the reach and influence of Universal Pictures International Production.

As for what Focus is looking for when acquiring or greenlighting a title, Kujawski states, "Something filmmaker-driven, with a unique point of view, that feels elevated, with a sense of a true filmmaker."
