This September, Peacock has plenty of movies to match your various moods and tastes.
So as the season changes, pick the film that best fits your fall vibe.
In the mood for an out-of-this-world experience? | Asteroid City
In Asteroid City, Wes Anderson creates an out-of-this-world technicolor treat for the mind, eye, and heart. Set in 1955 during the annual Junior Stargazers and Space Cadets Convention, the titled city hosts a remarkable cast of characters—played by Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Carell, Hope Davis, and Maya Hawke, among others—whose lives are for a brief moment connected by an unimaginable event. New York Magazine writes, “The audacity and beauty of Asteroid City lie in the way it connects the mysteries of the human heart to the secrets of science and the universe.”
In the mood for learning? | Every Body
In the documentary Every Body, filmmaker Julie Cohen explores the reality of intersexuality by following the lives of three dynamic individuals: actor and screenwriter River Gallo, political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel, and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall. These individuals brilliantly untangle the ways the medical establishment and popular culture have historically denied the reality of intersexuality by insisting on only two sexes. In addition, Cohen demonstrates how joyful and inspiring their lives actually are. The Hollywood Reporter writes, “The film leaves you with the sense that, with greater awareness and collective action, the future for the intersex community can be powerful and bright.”

In the mood for a luxurious getaway? | Downton Abbey: A New Era
For fans of the beloved saga of the Crawley clan, Simon Curtis’ Downton Abbey: A New Era doubles the fun and fantasy with two storylines. Beginning with a lavish wedding for Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton) in England, the film moves in two directions as some of the family travels to the south of France to explore the luxurious new villa that Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith) has inherited, and others stay home while a Hollywood production company takes over their regal abode to shoot a movie. For Slate, a return to the story’s luxurious settings, family romances, and downstairs drama provides “as satisfying a filmgoing experience as I can remember.”
In the mood for some epic action? | The Northman
With The Northman, visionary director Robert Eggers turbo charges the classic Hollywood epic with his powerful saga of betrayal, revenge, and redemption in the Viking world. Working from the Scandinavian legend of Amleth, Eggers follows a young prince (Alexander Skarsgård), whose destiny is to avenge his father (Ethan Hawke) and save his mother (Nicole Kidman). A meticulous artist, Eggers and his team researched every aspect of Viking life, from drinking cups to animal headpieces, to create what the Observer calls “an awesome Viking epic that will leave you shaken in the best way.”
In the mood for a fashionable thriller? | The Outfit
In Graham Moore’s The Outfit, a transplanted Savile Row tailor (Mark Rylance) and his assistant (Zoey Deutch) make bespoke suits for the Chicago mob (played by Dylan O’Brien and Johnny Flynn, among others). The arrangement works fine until a suspected mole puts everyone connected with the tailor’s shop in danger. Like the tailor himself, the film crafts with precision and panache an audacious thriller filled with exhilarating twists and turns that are seamlessly rendered. For RogerEbert.com, “Movies rarely come as chic as The Outfit, a thrifty, continually unpredictable whodunit, fashioned with the same meticulousness found in the bones of a deceptively simple suit.”
