Focus Features acquired worldwide rights to Thoroughbreds following the film's world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Cory Finley's debut as a director is stunning
Origins
Writer/director Cory Finley explains, "The movie started as a play that I'd written that was sort of a philosophical dialogue, with some jokes, between two characters. About the nature of right and wrong and the effect of emotions and empathy and emotional instincts on morality and what makes us good people."
Story
Thoroughbreds lead Olivia Cooke offers, "[Thoroughbreds] is about two teenage-girls from Connecticut who reconnect to plot a murder."
The film has been described as a stylish, noir thriller in the vein of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' Dangerous Liaisons.
"With Thoroughbreds, he's [Finley] created a wickedly comic, twisted and entertaining ride. The young cast including Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anton Yelchin, give vibrant performances that bring Finley's sparkling dialogue to life," Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski.
Cast
Thoroughbreds stars Oliva Cooke [Ouija], Anya Taylor-Joy [The Witch, Split] and Anton Yelchin [Star Trek] in the latter's final on-screen performance.
The film also features Paul Sparks [The Night Of], Francie Swift [Outsiders] and Kaili Vernoff [The Path].
Filmmakers
Helping bring Thoroughbreds to the screen were producers Andrew Duncan, Alex Saks, Kevin Walsh, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. Ryan Stowell, Ted Deiker and Declan Baldwin served as Executive Producers.
